The tournament is an invitational High School tournament and we are inviting 24 premium high schools from all over the nation. Since the tournament is in July and you may have some seniors that will be graduating, they will still be eligible. If they are under the age of 19 as at 1st September, 2008 (the competitive year for 2008/2009 is classified for this tournament as from September 2008 – August 2009), they are eligible.

We have already extended invitations out to teams in Sacramento CA, Washington DC, Illinois, Florida, Texas, Virginia, Colorado, North Carolina and New England MA.

I’ve also attached some documentation that will provide more details about the tournament.

In a nutshell:

A Single HS Invitational Tournament – hosted by the North Carolina High School Rugby Association (NCHSRA – www.nchsra.org), under the auspices and direction of NCYR (SBRO), together with the University of Carolina – Charlotte Campus (UNCC) and UNC-Charlotte Rugby Club (www.unccrugby.org)

We are planning to have 24 elite Boys and 12 elite Girls High Schools. Rosters of 12 players per team with validation of current High School eligibility and USA Rugby CIPP status. We are looking to this tournament to shape up and evolve as the Premium High School 7’s Tournament in the country; played annually, with a floating trophy and many other awards and prizes. We have a major backing and local sponsorship of The National Guard.

The tournament will run over 2 ½ days with the first 1 ½ days devoted to pool play. During the pool play, each boys team will be assured 12 games and the girls assured 6 games. The championship games will be for the top 12 boys teams and top 6 girls teams ending on top of the pool section. Approximately 180 pool games are scheduled and 16 knock-out championship games (boys and girls). Seedings will be randomly created – thereby not offending any team
